How do I add a background with Canva?
TPT and Canva are partnering to allow TPT School Access teachers to easily create beautiful backgrounds in Easel by TPT! This integration allows you to save flattened backgrounds from Canva directly into an Easel Activity. You will be able to select from Canva’s backgrounds that will properly fit the dimensions of Easel or import an asset that you have previously created in Canva.
How do I create a page using the Canva integration?
- Click the “Add Page” button at the bottom left of the screen.
- Click the Canva icon.
- Log into or create your Canva Free or Canva for Education account.
- Create a single page or multiple pages in the Canva editor using Canva’s Easel backgrounds, or create from scratch with Canva’s library of free graphics, images, frames, charts and more. You can also import your own design.
- Click “Save to Easel.”
- Note: Once you click “Save to Easel” you will not be able to reopen those pages to make additional edits to your background image.
Tip: Search “Easel Activity Backgrounds” within the Canva integration to find templates designed specifically for Easel by TPT!
What is available with the Canva integration?
After clicking the Canva button, you’ll find a library of Easel backgrounds, free graphics, images, frames, charts and more for use in background creation. The integration will then flatten your created background and add it to a page within Easel. The Canva button cannot be used to create non-background images.
Be sure to login to a free Canva for Education account to get full access to Canva’s premium tools and elements for classroom use.
How can I find my previously created Canva designs?
Assets created on the Canva website or in the Canva app will be available in Easel if you log into your Canva account.
To find your previously created assets:
- Click the “Add Page” button at the bottom left of the screen.
- Click the Canva icon.
- If you’re not already logged in, log into your Canva account.
- On the left side, click the icon labeled “Projects."
Tip: If you want to save your background for use in more than one Easel Activity, create your design on Canva.com first, then import it through the Canva button. Canva files created within Easel will not save to your Canva.com account.
How can I find the designs I made in Easel on the Canva website or in the Canva app?
Designs created via the Canva button in Easel are imported as flattened backgrounds into your Easel Activity and therefore are not saved back into your Canva account and are not available on Canva’s website or in the Canva app.
Can I add multiple Canva pages at the same time?
Yes, you can add up to 99 Canva pages at a time into your Easel Activity.
What should I do if I keep getting an “Unable to import from Canva” error message when saving to Easel?
Canva designs are saved into Easel as high resolution files and can therefore be extremely large. If you continue to get this error, try saving only a few pages into Easel at a time to reduce the size of the files being saved.

How do I add audio or video from Canva?
The integration does not import audio or video features from Canva. However, in the Easel editor you can use hyperlinks to link to a video and upload audio files by clicking the audio icon in the toolbar.
What are the dimensions of the Canva templates/backgrounds?
Canva page dimensions are equivalent to Microsoft PowerPoint and Google Slides page dimensions. The exact dimensions are 1920 x 1080 px.
